Deepa Nritya (Lamp Dance) Shanthi & Students
Simple Adavus (Basic steps) that we learn in Indian Bharatanatyam dance form in 3 speeds are put together almost in the order they are learned. It has been choreographed by Shanthi so that it becomes a motivation for the students to master each step, as it will get added to the dance piece after their mastery in 3 speeds. Ideally in Bharatanatyam, a dance is not learned until all the basic Adavus are mastered. The choreography is simple as the students had learned only this many steps up to that point. You can notice that this is like Yoga postures, requiring focus, stretched limbs, and with a connection to the inner self. It is meditative.
